Murree is the big one, the colonial-era hill station that generations of Pakistani families have escaped to in summer. From Rawalpindi the drive takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic, which makes it a genuine full-day outing rather than a quick hop.
Walk the Mall Road, ride the chairlifts, eat corn roasted over coals, and in winter, if you time it right, see snow. Leave the hotel by 8 a.m. to beat the weekend rush up the hill, and start your descent before dark, since the mountain road is far more pleasant in daylight.

This is the city at its most alive: narrow lanes stacked with spices, fabric, copperware, and a century of trading history. Mornings are the time to go, before the midday crush, when shopkeepers are setting up and the light cuts through the lanes.
Pair it with the Army Museum, about 8 km from the hotel, whose tanks, vintage aircraft and galleries surprise almost everyone who visits.
